Lights out on Jesus Green

Light out by lock-keeper’s cottage on Jesus Green in Cambridge

Councillors have recently installed temporary lights on the Jesus Green Plane Tree Avenue as part of the works to replace the path under the trees. The temporary lights have been put in place prior to the permanent installation of “heritage” street lamp columns due at the start of December.

Despite this significant effort, and presumably money, going into providing lighting on Jesus Green during the work there are many lights which are not functioning elsewhere on the green space.

Light 24 F by the play area is dim; the light on the riverside path just downstream of the lock-keepers’ cottage is out, the light next to the kiosk at the foot of the ramp from Jesus Lock bridge is out and one of the lights on Jesus Lock bridge is out. (The light numbers on the bridge appear not to have been replaced after the recent refurbishment.)

It appears to me a few new bulbs could substantially enhance the quality of lighting on the green space.

In addition, in the local area, street-light L2QBV 2 on Carlyle Road and street-light 1 on Holland Street in Cambridge are also out.

  1. I have reported the lights to the council in public via FixMyStreet

I have also tweeted copying the ward’s county Councillor Liberal Democrat Ed Cearns and Cllr Carina O’Reilly who is the deputy leader of Cambridge City Council and the councillor responsible for the city’s green spaces:

  2. I do wonder how bad Balfour Beatty have to be before the County council finally tear up that contract. They were supposed to sort the lights out while the path widening was going on but it hasn’t happened (as we can see) and apparently the company say they won’t be back till the beginning of December and don’t appear, to my mind at least, to show that much concern. This much we found out at the last West/Central.
