I have been told that Love Cambridge is pushing ahead with its plans to levy taxes; I am not in favour of a Cambridge Tax making it even harder for businesses to survive here but if one is to be introduced it certainly shouldn't be directing funds to Love Cambridge which is not democratically accountable.

I think it is a mistake to assume that the city isn't racist - there are certainly strong currents of racism present - large groups of England football supporters chanting EDL in pubs to start with one recent example. And certainly the city is not an especially friendly place. I am not sure being supercially friendlier as a means of getting more money out of people will make any significant change to that basic fact.

The Mill Road scheme was organised by the new Mill Road Festive Lights Association, of which I am the main organiser.

An enormous amount of assistance and guidance was provided by Emma Thornton's team. City Council capital grants were obtained and Love Cambridge also made a financial contribution.

The Mill Road snowflakes are 100% LED lights and use only 29 watts of power each, making them very energy efficient.

Mill Road Festive Lights is a community group run by volunteers. We are always looking for people to help with organising the Lights, and with other jobs like fundraising and publicity.

Anyone who wants to know more about the Lights or is interested in helping should contact us through our website.

We will also hold a public meeting in the summer, where local people can discuss ideas for making the Mill Road scheme bigger and better every year.
