January 2009 has now passed, so I have asked the council if the meeting of police and council with stakeholders councillors recommended should take place in January 2009 to address community response issues has in fact gone ahead.

I have been told that the Friends of Midsummer Common did remind the council of this earlier in the month, but were not invited to any such meeting.

I have submitted my request using the Whatdotheyknow.com website, any response will be publicly visible there.

Mr Wilkins has replied saying

I will do my best to ensure that the co-operation between the police, the council, residents and the Strawberry Fair Committee continues.

I have written to the members of the Police Authority who "represent" Cambridge City Centre:

Mr Wilkins and Ms Joyce,

I would like to make you both aware of the fact that Cambridge City Council recommended last Thursday evening that a meeting between the police and council with stakeholders should take place in January 2009 to address: "community response issues in relation to the Strawberry Fair".

I would like to suggest you:

i/ Try and ensure this meeting happens, and ensure that the police generally listen to what residents, via the city council are asking of them in relation to the policing of Strawberry Fair. In requesting the meeting city councillors were very aware that even they, as the elected representatives of the residents of Cambridge, couldn't ensure the police participated.

ii/ Get yourselves invited to, and attend, this meeting to understand what people asking of the police.

With around 300 police, and the helicopter above for most of the day there appear to be no problems relating to manpower or resources.
