Also I recently discovered that at least sometimes the Chaplin gets paid £10 of public money for saying the prayer:

Having considered the Chaplin's comments I remain confident that my report of the meeting is accurate, and my comments are reasonable.

I made no suggestion the Chaplin mentioned the crown; the monarch was represented by the mace.

Dear Sir,

Your report on the City Council meeting of 11 Sept 2008 has recently come to my attention. I am concerned about your comments concerning my contribution.

I would like to say two things:

i. I spoke about 'staff and students' and not 'students' exclusively. Post-Docs were referred to under staff. Your subsequent comments are therefore without substance. However, I would also add that I believe we are always 'students' throughout our lives, always learning, never all-knowing. My Post-Doc friends would no doubt concur.

ii. Prayers were offered to God in a multi-faith context. Neither Jesus or the Queen/Crown were mentioned at any point. I therefore respectfully question your observations.

Please amend your report. If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours,

Christian Heycocks

Hi,

I am more than distrought and desperate here. There are about twenty trees cut down on Hills Road close to the Addenbrookes hospital roundabout yesterday and today. The rampage will probably continue and extend tomorrow. Nobody knows why. Of course the city council will say that they were dangerous and sick, but there is nothing but the healty, white sap visible at every brunch and trunk that they cut. There is no difference in killing everything living, because everything living can be dangerous. What is the next? Where are the notices that the trees will be removed AND why and when they will be replaced? Who are these people that have the power and OUR MONEY to do this butchery?
